Recipe: Chocolate Protein Smoothie

Protein smoothies are great, especially post-long run!  This smoothie is especially great because it contains all real foods (no powders!) and contains more than 20 grams of protein.  

Frozen banana provides natural sweetness and a creamy texture while cacao powder adds chocolaty goodness. It basically feels like eating dessert for breakfast.  The combination of hemp seeds, nut/seed butter, and chia seeds are the whole food, protein-packed trio that makes this recipe such a game changer. Paired with some oats for fiber, they give this shake a seriously satiating effect to power you after an intense workout through your next meal!



1 frozen banana

¼ cup oats

2 tablespoons nut butter or seed butter

1 tablespoon chia seeds

1 tablespoon hemp seeds

1-2 tablespoons cacao powder

1 ½ - 2 cups unsweetened almond milk or nut milk of your choice

1-2 unpitted dates


Place all ingredients in a blender.  Blend until smoothie consistency forms.
