Fly Feature: Geoff T.

Fly Feet Geoff

Inside and outside of Fly Feet, Geoff is one the hardest working people we know; His loyalty and dedication are unmatched. Almost every afternoon, Geoff walks in for class, coming from work. When he walks out at 5:30 or 6:30 pm, he’s dressed and ready to go back to work. And all of this is done with a huge smile. Need a running buddy? Call Geoff. He can be reached at 612-8…just kidding, can’t give that away here but just stop in to the downtown location any given weekday evening or weekend and you will more than likely cross paths with him.

Who is Geoff?

I work as an Investment Banker at Northland Capital Markets in Downtown Minneapolis. I am the epitome of an urban dweller. I am drawn to the chaos and the busyness of the city, it gives me energy and a drive that is hard to describe. I live in the North Loop and on weekends you can usually find me at a neighborhood coffee shop getting my cold brew fix. I am a foodie and love to cook (thanks to my mom and grandma). I also love travel, golf, and a good glass of scotch.

What brought you into FLY FEET?

Prior to my first class, I had been following Fly Feet on social media but was hesitant to give it a shot since it had been 9 years since my junior high cross country days. What I discovered when I finally attended my first class is that you don’t have to be an elite athlete when you start at Fly Feet but you sure as hell will turn into one if you stick with it!

My friend, Courtney, invited me to a fundraiser class for the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. By the end of class, I knew that I wouldn’t be able to find training like that anywhere else and the next week I became a member.

You have been doing a lot of racing lately! Which races have you done? Which has been your favorite and why?

I started with running the occasional 5k and then quickly progressed to signing up for my first half marathon. I ran the 2017 Chicago half marathon in 90-degree heat and 100% humidity, not an easy introduction to half marathons but I survived! Next, I ran a few 10 mile races and 10k’s and this March I ran the NYC Half, which has been by far my favorite. The NYC half topped my list because New York has always been one of my favorite cities. Being able to run the NYC half was like a small taste of what it might feel like to be a new Yorker, running through the streets of Brooklyn and the trails of Central Park was amazing. This fall I am running the Chicago Marathon and crossing my fingers for better weather! As I continue to progress on my fitness journey I hope get a few more races under my belt and compete in the Wall Street Decathlon. What has been your favorite FLY FEET workout to date?

Any partner workout – I love the energy you get when somebody in addition to the coaches has your back and is helping push you to that edge. I find it hard to do long distances on the tread so I prefer the sub 2 min efforts where I can crank up the speed and mix it up with heavy chest press on the floor.

You work hard. So what do you do to de-stress?

Fly Feet! It is very hard to disconnect completely with my job. When it is time for class I know that I can check work at the door and for 50 min I can focus exclusively on the workout. I am likely physically and mentally exhausted from class but it helps to clear my head before heading back to work. Outside of the studio I love to visit local breweries… basically anyplace where I can just be an extrovert.

…”If you’re short on motivation, come anyway. Someone always shows up with a little extra.”

You can always count on Geoff to be that someone!
