Nike Breaking2 – Fly Feet gets the inside scoop

I want you to picture setting one of our Woodway treadmills at 13.1 mph. Then, imagine running at that speed for an entire marathon... This equates to a sub 2 hour marathon, a feat that has never been accomplished and is believed to be impossible. Well, three men are going to attempt to do just this, this week in Monza, Italy at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza complex, 17.5 laps around a racecar track.

What might be even crazier is that I have the incredible opportunity to attend the event LIVE!!!

I’ll be heading to Italy, and while I’ll miss every single one of you in the studio, I am very excited to share a potential historic event with all of you. I’ll be taking over Fly Feet’s Insta story throughout the week so follow along if you’re curious!  And read on for more information on what this whole Breaking2 phenomenon is, and why it’s such a big deal for the running world.

Bike - Breaking2

Nike launched a big dream called Breaking2 in which they have handpicked three runners to take on the daring goal of running a sub two-hour marathon time, that means reducing the current men’s world record time by about 3 minutes (current record is 2:02:57). Nike took on this challenge to inspire every athlete in the world, not just the most elite, to push the limits and test the potential of the human heart. The success is in the attempt itself; failure would be never taking the shot – sounds pretty similar to Fly Feet if you ask me.

Nike built a team of experts in all areas that affect a race including biomechanics, coaching, design, engineering, product development, nutrition, sports psychology and physiology. All of these elements make this event so much more than a race because it is science, it is a dream, and it is innovation at its purest form. The biggest innovation comes in the footwear that has been designed specifically for this event, called Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4%. With extensive research and development Nike created a shoe that tested a 4% improvement in a runner’s economy, meaning your ability to run at the same pace with 4% less effort (Immediately working on getting a Fly Feet branded shoe). This is just one small piece of the puzzle that makes this attempt possible.

I could go on and on about this, but I will put a halt here and you can chat with me any time if you want to know more :) I can’t wait to share the adventure and inspiration with all of you. My goal is to find out how good these three guys are at burpees – hoping for video evidence.
